Most travelers like to stick with foods that they know or have eaten before. When traveling, it’s a good idea to try new, exotic cuisine to explore new flavors and expand your palette.
In other countries, they aren’t used to making foods that you’re most likely used to eating. Therefore, it’s a great idea to try traditional meals. You might find a plethora of different foods and ingredients you never knew existed.
2. Over-planning and over-packing
When traveling, it isn’t a good idea to over-plan. It’s important not to over-plan because you might not be able to spend as much time at a place as you like. Spending a longer period of time at a destination you want to visit will allow you to learn more about the heritage and culture of the city and country.
Over-packing is another common mistake people make while traveling. Pack light. You don’t want to be targeted by carrying around your luggage everywhere you go. Most places will have an abundant supply of shops. This will allow you to fit in but most importantly when you’re traveling you don’t have to drag around large and heavy luggage.
3. Using your credit and debit cards without alerting your bank
If you plan to travel in the near future, it’s always a good idea to let your bank know about your plans. The last thing you want to have happen is for your bank to deactivate your account due to suspicious activity. Visit your bank online and see if they an option for travel notifications. Letting your bank know about your travel plans will help avoid getting locked out of your account.

When visiting a foreign country, especially in Europe, it’s important to know what types of electrical outlets are used. If you forget to pack the proper electrical adapters, you might not be able to use your electronics. It’s also important to check the voltage for larger devices, like electric toothbrush chargers, hair dryers, electric razors, etc. Get an adjustable converter to avoid a power overload.
5. Not checking the passport expiration date
If your passport is going to expire in the next six months or less, you may not be able to enter the country you’re trying to visit. Not every country requires a passport to be valid for six months or more, but it’s much easier to renew your passport than to take the chance.
Some countries like China and Russia have regulations that may require your passport to be valid for longer than six months. Places like Mexico may not require you to have your passport valid for longer than six months, however they do require Mexico Auto Insurance if you’re taking your personal vehicle. Checking proper travel and passport requirements will ensure easy crossings and peace of mind.
